Medium: Glass

Background

Linda Condray has been working with stained glass on and off for over 27 years. Based in Northern Virginia, she has cultivated a deep passion for the medium, treating it not just as a craft but as an expressive art form. The logo for her studio features her son as a young child; he is now 22 and proudly serving as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force—a reminder of how long glasswork has been a meaningful part of her life.

Visitors to Linda's website can explore a wide range of her creations, from functional objects to decorative art. She also offers classes and is happy to connect with others who share her passion. Inquiries about her work or teaching opportunities are welcome via the email link provided on her site.

Philosophy

Linda Condray is a stained glass artist who views her work as painting with light. She is fascinated by the way glass interacts with light—both as it passes through and reflects off the surface—and she uses that interaction to create dynamic, expressive pieces. Her work often highlights the natural beauty of the world around her, particularly flora and fauna native to the regions where she has lived. As the spouse of a retired military member, Linda has lived in a variety of places, and her art reflects this diversity of experience and environment.

In addition to traditional stained glass techniques, Linda enjoys pushing the boundaries of the medium by incorporating unexpected elements into her designs. Her pieces may feature materials like slag glass chunks, fossils, or other textural components that add depth and meaning. For example, her Heron fireplace screen includes both a fossilized ammonite and sculptural glass accents. Linda also works with a Propane/Oxygen torch—burning at around 3000°F—to create lampworked sculptures, beads, and components for use in fused glass pieces.
