Tracey Howard
Building W-7, 705A
Medium: Glass
Background
Tracey Howard works with both cold and warm glass, with a focus on creating expressive, handcrafted jewelry. In addition to her flameworking practice, she also explores the technique of electroforming—an intricate process of depositing copper onto glass surfaces to create detailed, sculptural effects. Her upcoming exhibit will focus on this process, offering an inside look at the tools, materials, and methods involved. Visitors will be able to view a range of electroformed glass objects, alongside descriptions and examples of the equipment used.
Philosophy
Tracey Howard has long been captivated by the beauty and mystery of glass. Her fascination began in childhood, inspired by years of visiting European castles and cathedrals with her parents. Whether it was simple beads or intricate stained-glass windows, she was always drawn to the way glass could tell stories through light and color. This early appreciation evolved into a passion, eventually leading her to pursue formal training in stained glass and, later, flameworking.
As a flameworker, Tracey is particularly inspired by the immediacy and transformation involved in melting glass. Taking a simple rod of glass and shaping it into a piece of wearable art is a process she finds both intimate and empowering. For Tracey, jewelry is more than adornment—it is a personal expression of emotion, taste, and identity. Her goal with each piece is to bring joy to the wearer and to share her love of glass with others.
